Follow along as I continue the build of my N scale model railroad. In this episode I show you the latest progress on my build, as I finish off the Western Avenue Yard trackwork and come close to starting the scenery on this section of the layout.
Layout update: Work started on west end of yard
Well, I’ve finally started on the west end of my Western Avenue Yard! Once this short board is done (90cm, 2ft11) I’ll start on the exciting bit…the scenery! I’ll be shooting an update video this coming weekend – as I’ve realised I haven’t put one out for over 2 months!
Layout Update: Trackwork complete on main Western Avenue Yard board
A very productive evening…all the trackwork on the main Western Avenue Yard board is now complete, with feeders added. Now just to connect the feeders to the two bus wires (main line and yard buses) and test. Next up will be the short 3ft board for the west end of the Western Avenue Yard, and then this first part of the main layout level is ready for scenery.
Western Avenue Yard update
Well, after a few weeks of doing nothing on the layout, finally managed to put aside an hour tonight to continue working on the Western Avenue Yard. I’ve laid all the mainline tracks and am halfway through the yard tracks. Once I’ve done this board, just a short 3ft board to do to finish this yard, then I can start the scenic work for this part of the layout, before I continue with the rest of the layout. I’ve got quite a bit of free time coming up, so hope to get all the trackwork done this week.
LAYOUT UPDATE: Western Avenue Yard
Working on adding track to the Western Avenue yard. Unfortunately have not had time to do an update video as have been away, but I’ll try get a quick one out soon.
LAYOUT UPDATE: Signals
Well, a tiny update is better than no update! I’ve installed my first two Showcase Miniatures hooded signals, connected via a Digitrax SE8C signal decoder. They look amazing! I’ve also been working on the main Western Avenue board, all track buses in place, along with accessory bus and LocoNet cable. Next is to start laying track. I’ll hopefully get an update video done next week…have literally had no time to shoot any video this past month..! Mind you, I hadn’t done any work on the layout till last week!
LAYOUT UPDATE: Finally…back to the layout!
After a quiet month on the layout building progress, I finally had some time to get back to work! Wiring up the main Western Avenue Yard board (including the Western Avenue Metra Station), ready for the track laying. Printed out the latest track plan (although added another yard track in front after printing this), testing out the turnout positions to make sure nothing interferes with the location of the switch machines. All good to go!

LAYOUT UPDATE: Weekend layout update
Managed to get a few projects done this weekend #acoupleofhoursaweekendFinished installing the LED lighting for the lower staging yard. Really happy with how this looks – just shows how important layout lighting is.I also installed decoders in 2 of my Metra MP36PH’s and tested my Amtrak advanced consisting as those two locos will always run together. Just need to sort the speed matching now.
