Follow along as I continue the build of my N scale model railroad. In this episode I show you the latest progress on my build, as I finish off the Western Avenue Yard trackwork and come close to starting the scenery on this section of the layout.
Well, I’ve finally started on the west end of my Western Avenue Yard! Once this short board is done (90cm, 2ft11) I’ll start on the exciting bit…the scenery! I’ll be shooting an update video this coming weekend – as I’ve realised I haven’t put one out for over 2 months!
A very productive evening…all the trackwork on the main Western Avenue Yard board is now complete, with feeders added. Now just to connect the feeders to the two bus wires (main line and yard buses) and test. Next up will be the short 3ft board for the west end of the Western Avenue Yard, and then this first part of the main layout level is ready for scenery.
Well, after a few weeks of doing nothing on the layout, finally managed to put aside an hour tonight to continue working on the Western Avenue Yard. I’ve laid all the mainline tracks and am halfway through the yard tracks. Once I’ve done this board, just a short 3ft board to do to finish this yard, then I can start the scenic work for this part of the layout, before I continue with the rest of the layout. I’ve got quite a bit of free time coming up, so hope to get all the trackwork done this week.
Working on adding track to the Western Avenue yard. Unfortunately have not had time to do an update video as have been away, but I’ll try get a quick one out soon.
After a quiet month on the layout building progress, I finally had some time to get back to work! Wiring up the main Western Avenue Yard board (including the Western Avenue Metra Station), ready for the track laying. Printed out the latest track plan (although added another yard track in front after printing this), testing out the turnout positions to make sure nothing interferes with the location of the switch machines. All good to go!
This weekend I had the chance to spend some time in the layout room, working on various projects. The first one was adding the flextrack mainline that connects the Kato Unitrack on the helix to the track on Level 1, the eastern end of Western Avenue Yard I received another Walthers Steel Overpass kit, which I am using to build the underpass underneath Western Avenue Yard (see previous post for more details). I am combining 3 of these kits in order to span the width of the yard and create a nice modelled feature where you’ll able to look through […]
I’ve taken the plunge and have cut the first baseboard to lower the front section in order to install the roads and underpasses under Western Avenue yard. I took the plywood top I had cut out and installed it on the now lowered cross-bracing. I then printed a mock-up of one of the underpasses and placed it on the lowered board to test the height. Next step is to paint the baseboard with undercoat paint to seal it, then start adding the track underlay.
